“GO THEREFORE AND MAKE DISCIPLES OF ALL THE NATIONS, BAPTIZING THEM IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER AND OF THE SON AND OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, TEACHING THEM TO OBSERCE ALL THINGS THAT I HAVE COMMANDED YOU.“
Matthew 28:19-20
From Steve:
Hello fellow Journeyers!
In response to The Great Commission, making disciples is a core value for the Impact family. Over the past 2 1/2 years, Christina and I have been very intentional about identifying, training and releasing men and women to do ministry. Our focus has been the next generation. Passing the baton is a vital component of authentic discipleship.
I can think of no better opportunity to put discipleship and multiplication of ministry into practice than Journeys of Compassion. A number of us have been on multiple JOCs, and I anticipate that we will continue this. However, I want to both invite and challenge all of us to take a key step and actively seek the Lord's direction; "Who do You want me to mentor and bring with me on my next Journey?"
To help you with this discipleship process, we have laid out a simple outline. It begins with a personal invitation to specifically encourage and equip someone(s) for effective Kingdom ministry through preparing them for a Journey of Compassion. You may elect to send them on their own, or accompany them in the JOC.
1. Mentor prays about who God is putting on their heart
2. Mentor invites the person(s) into a regular rhythm of meeting together
3. Mentor sets up a special meeting to share why the were compelled to walk in a discipling relationship with them. (See Matt 28:19-20)
4. Mentor invites the person(s) to join them on a Journey of Compassion to live out the discipleship model of Jesus Christ
